The air mass meter/maf is located in the engine compartment usually next to the air filter box. The air mass meter or sometimes called the air flow meter/maf sensor is used to determine the airflow that is being delivered to your engine. The air mass meter does this by sending an electronic signal to the cars ECU, and so sends the correct signal to the fuel injectors that regulate the amount of fuel that is delivered to the engine.

If you are experiencing a hesitation on acceleration or a poor idle, this may be the result of a bad air mass meter. The best way to determine if you need a new air flow meter is to check the computer diagnostic codes. If you are experiencing a repeated failure of your air flow meter this may be due to the fact that you have an aftermarket performance air filter that uses an oil based filter element. This in some cases will damage the mass airflow sensors on newer cars. There are a few major manufacturers of airflow and air mass meters including; Bosch, Delco, Denso, Pierburg and Siemens

Air Mass Meters usually fail as a result of water or dirt particles entering the intake tube, therefore it is important to ensure regular cleaning/replacement of the air filter is adhered to.

The most common symptoms you will have from a bad air mass meter are low performance and inconsistent or rough idle.

All air flow meters will degrade with age.

It's important to have an airtight intake hose after the Maf sensor because the amount of metered air won't be correct if its leaking out of a disconnected or split hose! Air leaks are called vacuum or boost leaks. If these air leaks are not corrected first you could be changing the Maf for no reason.

If your vehicle lacks power this could also be caused by other components/sensors such as

A Faulty EGR valve

Pressure converter switches either for the EGR valve or Turbo

Lambda/oxygen sensors

Clogged air filter

Split intercooler turbo hoses

Split vacuum hoses/pipes

crankcase breather valve

fuel pressure sensor

We will need the NUMBER that is on your air flow meter.

When requesting a quote for a part we will need your vehicle details

ie: Vehicle reg make model, year, also if petrol/diesel, auto/manual.

We can supply just the maf sensor insert. This only applies to some of the Bosch types. They are really easy to fit, just pull of the plug undo the two torx security screws, pull out the sensor and replace with the new one.

PLEASE BE AWARE!!.

More and more cheap pattern parts mostly from Asia are coming into the market; some of these have problems regarding quality and performance. They can have the following problems.

Unacceptable curve deviation, consequently giving inaccurate air mass measurement:

Increase of fuel consumption up to 20%

Bad engine characteristics, loss of power/torque etc

Short life due to:

Bad materials
Low fatigue strength
Low grade connections within the electronic circuit
